Design managers (DM) are responsible for shepherding along the project design in alignment with the project execution plan. This is more common on projects where the general contractor (GC) / construction manager (CM) holds greater contractual risk and consequently has increased financial incentive to control more of the project lifecycle. Project Delivery Methods include design-build (DB), Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), and Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR). Especially on DB projects where the GC/CM control the design team contract, the DM helps ensure design deliverables are complete, on time, and within budget.
